My new geese hate me!

My geese love watermelon.

When introducing it, they may act like it is poison when you first put it out and maybe attempt a bite or two, shaking their heads. The next day, they try a few more tastes.... within 4-5 days of daily attempts, they will start to act like it is the greatest thing ever.

Ooh forgot to tell you! I got them inside in like 1/2 the time tonight..15 minutes vs 30. Lois (goose) is much better than George (gander) about going to bed. Seems like he just has to put up a little more fight....but it was way better tonight. I am just happy to see them out & about drinking. I will try & post pic of them soon.

Thanks for asking!

My geese love grapes but they have to be halved [spoiled rotten things] about the only other thing my geese will eat and it's more of a nibble is romaine lettuce. If they are out free ranging I can call them back into the fence with W/W bread all i have to do is wrinkle the bag. :)     And there's safety in numbers. hence trying to flock with your runners. How'd it go getting them inside tonight?

Oh yeah, I have one in the kitchen now. I will cut some up tonight for them. Problem is the runners are like a school of pirahna when it comes to melon...hope the geese get to try some.

My geese have all loved a weed called sow thistle (Sonchus). And my late goose would do anything for dry dog food - very practical, since you can keep it in your pocket.

I feed my new goslings in their pen at night. The first two nights I waited for them to find the food, and then I closed the doors. Now they run to their pen as soon as they see me.

Peas. Lots and lots of peas. Then you will have spoiled geese who stand at the door and demand peas.

And some time and patience helps too.

Maybe it's an acquired taste. Mine push everyone out of the way to get theirs, lol.
I usually put out 2 pans next time I'll do 3 so maybe everyone will be so busy they won't notice the 3rd pan. LOL when i feed grapes my EE's will leap through the air trying to snatch a grape literally from my gooses mouth, crazy things.
