Hi just wondering if anyone can help. I have just rescued 4 commercially kept "free range" chickens. All I know about them really is that they are 6o weeks old and supposedly lay 1 egg a day. They look like Gingernut rangers and Goldlines but we are unsure of the breed, if anyone can tell us what they are likely to be and what to expect from them we would be very grateful!!

p.s my mum would like to know if anyone knows which breed of chicken lays particularly large yolks as she loves them.

Thanks everybody. Look forward to your responses:)!

If you could post a picture, it would be most helpful. I'm anxious to see them.

ok here are pictures! They might be a bit dark as atm they are currently residing in my horse box jus till I get a run sorted for them. I aquired anotha one last night as well. Someone had bought it for there lil girl who is now bored of it. She was living on her own in there garden. Fortunately the girls and her get on fine. So now I have 5 chickens that I dont really know about. My mum used to have them when she was first married as well as some Musckovy ducks however the neighbours at the time complained so much she had to rehome them all. They wont be a problem with these though! Anyway if anyone has any suggestion on breed etc i would be very grateful. (The new girl is called Wendylene and shes a 24 week old Light Sussex cross)

Thanks xxx:D

Ditto that.

They are very friendly birds and will lay you huge eggs practically every day. Congrats!

They are Isa Browns.

You'll get some eggs for another 6 months and then they'll go into egg laying retirement, their best laying days are behind them..

Thank you very much!!! I'm glad that i know now. So how have u all found urs? These would have gone to slaughter if the person who rescued them hadnt taken them. I know its only 4 but its a start. The girls all talk to me when i feed em and are becoming more confident. I've just been sat in with them watching them getting to know them a bit and they all have fantastically different personalities. I am very pleased to have them and have 2 lovely eggs for breakfast! The only concern i now have is how my horses will react to them when they move in!
