Crowing
Chicken math has struck again. But I swear I'm getting better, I swear it!
We lost 5 hens this summer, and one (Ativan) hasn't been looking so good. They were production birds, and hadn't been laying for about a year, with spotty production before that, so it was sort of expected, but also not at the same time. We're missing them and their eggs. They were our first flock members.
I went to Tractor Supply and "happened" to see a nice mix of birds that met what I was looking for in new flock members. The intention was to only replace my lost flock members. But 5 was an uneven number, and I don't know how much longer Ativan will be around, so I planned to get six. But there were 4 types of birds I wanted, so I ended up with 8. I exercised self control, since there were actually 5 types of birds available.
I came home and told my husband the reasons I should be praised:
1. Baby chicks are cute, and now he has 8 to play with.
2. I ONLY brought home 8 when there were 5 breeds available.
3. We can just barely manage to get them out in the coop before my sister has to chicken sit for us. I promised her she wouldn't have to care for baby chickens in a brooder, and I'll have kept my promise.
4. In six months we can have more eggs!!!
5. However many chickens we currently have, it's still half as many as I used to have.
6. How do you know which breeds of chicken are your favorite if you haven't tried them all? I'm making progress towards that goal. Goal attainment is good!
7. I only bought two of each type of chicken. Instead of 3 or 4...
8. I reeeeaaaallly want to go to Rural King, and see what kinds of chickens they have, but I haven't done it.
I'll include the darling chick pictures once my phone cooperates.
