Ventilation is very important in a coop, even in the coldest weather. You can find out more about it in the Learning Center (I see you've already heard that, lol).

Congrats on getting your first flock, hope you enjoy them!
 
Hello there, and welcome to Backyard chickens! I do not think heat lamps will be necessary, but insulation would be a good idea if you live in Canada. agree with Chicken Canoe. You may also want to post at "Canadians, check in here." There is a very good thread called "J'est Another Day in Pear A Dice," put out by a lady from Alberta. She experiences the horrendous temps as well., and often addresses the steps she takes with her varied group, chickens, ducks, geese, hair sheep, swans and 2 cattle dogs.
