Just had to share the news about my new little bantam cochin. I bought her at the fair and I think she must be magic! So, far she has been laying one egg a day. I know my friend's regular LF cochins don't appear to be heavy layers. I did read online that Bantam Cochins do lay better than LF Cochins though. Just wondering who elsel out there has little Bantam Cochins who are magic egg layers!

I'm very happy with my little girl and think she will be a great addition to our little flock (Our small flock only consists of two other chickens, Bam-Bam, a partridge silkie, and Bethany, a splash silkie.) Also do any of you have any tips on introducing new chickens? Our little Bantam Cochin is on quarintine just to be safe, but I just would like some tips for when they do get introduced. I also need some name ideas. So far I've been debating over Blackberry and Olivia, but would love to hear your ideas! I'll post some pictures once I get the chance. For now, I'll just tell what she looks like to help. She is a blue Cochin hen with a pretty red comb that is a little floppy to one side and beautiful lacing. She has a very round bottom and heavily feathered feet too. She has a great little personality. She is starting to come out of her shell, actually I don't think she ever was in her shell...and it's showing a little bit of a pig when it comes to food and a lot of curiosity....well one thing is for sure...she loves to cuddle! Thanks for all your information!

(P.S.- Dont be shy to post pictures of your little bantam cochins!

I LOOOVE cochins!

Please post pictures! I don't have any chickens of my own YET but my coop is making progress!

Well okay I kinda have chickens.. my darling neighbor is going to give me 3 cochins as a "coop warming" gift!

But they live with her until my coop is habitable!

Awww....I love cochins too !!! I have 8 hens and a roo (he is my avatar) Frosty is my roo because his saddle feathers look like icicles. My hens are Sprite-columbian color, Cake-white, Ruby and Little Red Riding Hood are both red
Liza-partridge, Turtle-barred, Onyx and Godzilla are black. Cochins are so fluffy and cute. So happy you have one but you may have to have more :) Good luck with your introductions to your silkies.

Thank you! I am incubating some eggs right now, so more little ones will be joining the flock soon!

I still have to take some pictures. If I'm able to, I'll take some pictures tomorrow and post them. This afternoon she was being quite the cuddle bunny!

(P.S- I love your Bantam Cochin Rooster! He is just Gorgeous!)

I have 4 Cochin Bantam hens that are a year old this week. They took about a 6 week lay-cation this winter but are laying again now. Today was the 2nd 3 egg day in a week! At the end of last summer I had 2 magic layers, but something (I suspect a cat or a coon) made off with one of them... You can see them in my avatar (munching on a chia Bob) or on my blog: http://artmamasays.blogspot.com/2012/03/chicken-whisper.html They are such awesome pets that I can totally overlook the fact that they aren't great layers... We can't all be good at everything!
