Hello y'all from Mableton, GA. I was a RN but disabled and now retired. I'm a lover of animals but recently this year decided to raise chickens. I read everything about different breeds, coops, etc. regarding chickens months prior to getting my girls. Lol, one turned out to be a roo and two others were different breeds. I have 4 Black Australorps (3 pullets, 1 roo)and 2 Silver lace Wyandottes pullets. I got them around 3 days old and now they're 18 weeks old. They make me smile and laugh often. My 2 sons and husband are happy about having them around. My husband said that we would need to sell the eggs for $400.00 each to break even...lol. I wanted to have safe, healthy and happy chickens and I pretty sure I do!!

And the eggs taste much better than store bought eggs as well.
DD ate a fresh egg every morning before school starting in 2nd grade. She is at a private college on partial scholarship this year. I think the fresh eggs in the morning helped her to be alert and focused in the morning. No sugar up and downs.

Your husband may be guessing low at $400 :lau. That's how I felt when I "accidentally" got too many chicks this spring and had to build a new coop while lumber prices were way up. Luckily, I'm way better at chicken math than the real thing!

Glad to hear everyone is enjoying the flock; welcome to BYC!
