My new pet snake *PICS*

A couple of years back we needed a doghouse. Snakemans uncle said he had one he would give us if we would come and get it. Now this dog house had three sections, three houses all in one and they were all built together. This thing was huge and heavy.

At the time I had a small kitten that I took everywhere with me because I had an aquarium without a top and if the kitten fell in he would drown. After awhile all I had to do was open the front door and this kitten would run out and run to my truck door and wait to be let in just like a dog would do. The kitten would ride on the dash of my truck. I ended up naming the kitten Dash kitty.

On the day we went to get the dog house I also took one of my dogs with us. When we got there and saw this dog house we knew we would have to round up some help to load it. I was driving a small Ford Ranger. Once moving the dog house we found a nest of moles. HUMMMMM snake food. All I had to put them in was a drink cup from a fast food place so that is what we did.

Well we finally got the dog house loaded and ended up having to tie it on the back because it was hanging past the tail gate a good bit. Once we got this done we snake hunted for a little while. We happened to turn over a sheet of plywood and there were two males and one female copperhead.

The only problem was we didn't have a snake bag or bucket with us. Nothing to carry the snakes in. What ended up happening was Snakeman carefully took each snakes head as he caught it and placed it between each of his fingers on his left hand. Once he was done you could look at his hand held up level and see three copperhead heads. Now that is something you don't see everyday. lol

The bodies and tails on these snakes were not acting happy at all. Now you have to remember we still have to drive home, we have a cat, a dog, and a drink cup full of moles with us in the tiny area inside of the Ford ranger pick-up truck and the truck is extremly uneven because of the weight of the three section dog house. I can say that is one ride I will never forget.

The cat wanted to get the moles, the dog wanted to get the snakes and Snakeman made it clear to me over and over again that I had better not slam on the brakes, making him lose one of the copperheads. I wish I had video to see now. It was a trip of a day but we made it safely. lol

I can still hear Snakeman saying "Woman, don't you dare slam on brakes." lol

EXCELLENT thread. How did I miss this before?

Thank you very much for sharing your pictures and stories. I am tickled pink to see such a positive reaction! I can't count how many times I have seen someone post a snake thread and get comments like "eww snakes" or similar. The response to this thread is AWESOME!

I've been working with reptiles myself, since literally as far back as I can remember. My FIRST ever memory is of my father bringing home a neonate Burmese.

We had that snake 21 years, and when she contracted what I believe was IBD and couldn't be saved by the vet, I cried for days. It was heartbreaking.

During those years my dad and I worked in reptile rescue and we saw a large amount of snakes come through, and bred a few of our own even, among other reptile species.

We didn't work with venomous too often, but we would get them once in a while. We only had one incident, where a mean little Broad Banded copperhead gave me a dry bite. I'm glad it was a dry one! And it sure taught me a lesson: to always respect the snake and its space. Something every reptile owner, or heck, every pet/animal owner has to learn.

We even kept and bred some less recognized species, like Basilisks. They weren't very fun to handle, but were GREAT "display" animals.

Anyways, enough rambling. A big thumbs up to you and Snakeman. Keep doing what you're doing!

And congrats on the new neonates!!

Sarah and SnakeMan Love their animals and they love to hear from others who have snakes and such.
Your right this has been an awesome thread with awesome people on the posts.
Im sure you have read about my Grandadughter who wants to go vist with Sarah and her Dear Hubby.
12 years old and her love of snakes started at age 2
the child cant live with out a snake in the house, she litterally gets tweaky and either goes finds a wild one to love on or I have to buy her one.
Before our house fire one of her few wants for christmas was a baby red tail boa, of course being the weird whacko grandmother I am I made sure she recieved one, though you should have seen the faces of the store clerks when little red tail came poking out the top of my shirt. heh it was winter I wasnt leaving it in the car to freeze lol.

I have one Grand son who is the spider boy, he loves spiders which his mother is terrified of. though she can come her and not be bothered with the facct there is a Rose Hair Trantula in a cage acrossed the room, she did finally get over that fear. She still cant handle the scorpions or Hissing Roaches though LOL.
yes this is a reptile house and all 4 grandchildren have different likes whether its spiders, snakes, scorpions, lizards etc etc, as long as I have access to decent pet stores that carry them they will always have a creepy crawly of there choosing.
ummm with the exception of Frogs !! they creep me out and chase me through the house , fields , drive way , < shivering at the thought right now> blah just creeped myself right out LOL.

SARAH!! how did the Dr's appointment go?

OMG you are brave no snakes for us ughhhh!!!! Hey we just mowed the middle pasture and have literally hundreds of cottonmouths / aka water mocassins some really reallly big !!! Kids can't go back there anymore. Lol anybody want to come collect? jk

we have five acres with a natural spring underground and it stays pretty wet in the back corner and drains into our small pond. I guess the habitat is condusive for cottonmouths. Anyhow they are everywhere back there we had to kill a couple in the carport by the house that were about 12 inches long after the younguns found em. No rattlers YET but they are known around here. Have seen couple of kingsnakes and a rat snake we let those go they were not near the pens (chicken). Different strokes for different folks I guess!!! Good luck with your hobby!!!

One of the rattlers we caught this year was pregnant so now we have 12 baby rattlesnakes and we were lucky enough to see them being born.

Sorry I haven't been able to keep this thread going but my health hasn't allowed it.
