My new pet snake *PICS*

Snakeman says he isn't quite sure what kind it is but it being slender it could be a decay or garder snake. He says not to worry that it is most likely not venomous. Venomous snakes are fatter snakes. What time of year did you see this snake? The babies are hatching in August and September. Snakeman said he thinks with the brown color its definately a decay snake. I'm not sure I'm spelling decay right. Snakeman has studied snakes for 50 years now but never hunted in Va. Try getting a book from your local library and see if this is what you saw. Let me know what you find out.

We will be taking pics of the baby copperheads today. I can't wait!!!!!

looked threw some pa snakes and the little snake "Eastern Garter Snake" looked just like the light brown babies on this page. http://www.paherps.com/herps/snakes/garter_snake it was prolly mid aug when I saw the little guy too. every single poisonous snake, down to every pic looked nothing like this little guy so I believe you are quite right that he wasn't dangerous at all.

btw how did the rattler in the house thing turn out?

On October 22, late in the year for snake catching I came across a snake I wasn't familure with. While I was attempting to catch the snake it turned on me and hooded out like a cobra. Then it formed its head in a triangle shape like a venomous snake. Hum.....My thought then was it was a snake from another country that had gotton loose from its owner. I own snakes from africa so I know this could happen.
While I was working on plan B to catch the snake without getting bit the snake all of a sudden rolled its body upside down, opened its mouth, stuck its tongue out and didn't move. OMG I yelled to my girlfriend that was standing way back since she is terrified of snakes. Its a hognose snake. I picked it up and turned it back over and immediately the snake rolled over, opened its mouth and stuck out its tongue.
I had heard about the hognose snakes defence before but had never witnessed it. I can't wait until he comes out of hybernation so I can get it on video and share it with ya'll.

BTW I caught and rescued more snakes than Snakeman this year and I did it while going through chemo and radiation. Good luck next year Snakeman.

I named the hognose Chester since he likes to show his chest. lol Snakeman said if I handle him all the time he want see me as a threat and want put on his show. Darn, he still was an awesome catch. We live on the river so theres plenty of frogs to feed him. He ate three the day after I caught him. Cool!

My sons used to catch baby hog-nosed snakes all the time. The most they ever did was hood-up. Still neat to see.
A few years ago I caught an adult hog-nose and it put on one heck of a show--awesome to watch, right down to the part where after it rolled over it looked like it had a prolasped vent...almost thought it had really died. Got pics somewhere that I may have to post. Turned it loose after the photo session.

Wow, I would love to see the pics. I wish I had gotton video on Chester before he ate and crawled up in his hybernation box. The hognose are a rare find here. Just awesome, awesome show he put on and him eating right away was great.

Sometimes when we catch a snake it want eat so we end up having to let it go. Chester is a southern hognose and Snakeman said the western hognose were mildly venomous.
Our newest snake, we got last weekend from another snake handler we know is a mojave rattlesnake. He just gave it to us because his job is sending him up north and he was scared his girlfriend would get bit trying to take care of it. Usually trades is how we get different breeds so that was a really cool deal. We didn't have to give up any of ours.
