I came home from work and went straight out to see my new pullets and noticed one had a runny eye so picked it up and can hear, like a snotty nose. Now today when I left she appeared fine. I have read to seperate her from the others but dont have another coop so will she be ok in a plastic box inside the house tonight untill i see the vet tomorrow? Also is there anything I can do in the mean time? I am so upset as only had her for 3 days.

Plastic box with some shavings or newspaper on the floor. Do you have any Sav-a-chick or similar? It may help. Keep her warm and in a quiet area, make sure she has sufficient food & water. I hope it is nothing serious.

Thank you, I am such a worrier as I just love her already and dont like to think she is suffering. She is really missing my others too ;(. Off to ring the vets now .

Well rang the vets and they said the vet isnt a poultry specialist but I can bring her in and she will see, also to look up the symptoms myself. Not very helpful really, now a days lots of people have chickens and would of thought the vets would know a little more. I have ordered some treatment to see if that will help and if that fails then off to the vets it will be. Been taking her around with me alot today and her eye appears a little better but touch wood I am not jinxing myself . I have bathed her eye with cotton wool and cooled boiled water, hope thats right?

You're doing ok. If the eye looks infected & crusty, try some human Neosporin or Triple A - nothing with pain killer in it.

Again fingers crossed, she appears well, her eye is fully open and no puss or discharge and she doesnt appear to be snotty. Will she be ok to add back with the others as she seems to be missing them?
Thanks again for all your advice who gave it x

If she's well, I would put her back with the others, just keep an eye on her in case the others pick at her.

Thanks just put her back and there was a bit of hen pecking but they seem to be ok, she is always on her own as the other two are inseparable. I have another two coming today so hopefully they will like her better.
