They were mailed yesterday from Oregon and arrived this afternoon. They are so frightened. It is going to take them a bit to adjust. Makes me realize that mine are a lot tamer than I thought. I think they will warm up a bit though, once I caught them to dry them off they snuggled. I put them into a big dog crate tonight to relax a bit. I think I should wait a while before I introduce them to the rest of the flock. The blue one is the male. His bill is multicolored. The buff is the female. She is so frightened she wants to get close to him for protection and he is like "get off me!" They are more upright and slender than the rest of my runners. I will get better pictures when they relax a bit. They didn't even preen very much when I put them in the tub, and ignored the peas... poor little guys.... it has been a rough couple of days.

Oh my gosh Tia - They're beautiful! I'm sure they'll warm up and the drake will be a wonderful addition to your flock. Congratulations!

Soooo cute , congratulations! We have runner ducklings coming from Holderreads this spring. We cant wait! I purchased some adult calls in November from Holderreads. They are very skittish and the female is down right mean. She bites me!

New Runners... They are lovely Tia, Im sure given some time you will have them settled in and not to skittish. I have three on order here in Australia and Im sure they will not be tame when I receive them either.

My new ducks still scared this morning. I don't think they have eaten anything. She kind of climbs all over him when there is a noise, I am thinking about putting them in different pens, to give him a break from her. I wonder how soon I can introduce them to the other ducks?
They are like wild birds compared to my flock.

The adult pair I got from Holderread acted exactly the same. I thought I was doing them a favor by keeping them inside to get use to me, but they were just terrified. The next day I took them outside and let them loose in the yard. They were so happy! There was a little bit of fighting with the girls, the guys not so much the first day but later that week they figured out who was boss. The flock taught them not to be afraid of me. Took about a month, but now they run to me just like the rest of them do.
