The birds took to it right away, probably because it leaks. The first dry run was just the nipples threaded into the pvc. Water gushed out. The second run, I taped the nipples and threaded them on more carefully. It still leaks but much less. They are leaking at the drilled hole, not because of too much pressure. I need to seal it up but I'm not sure what to use. I have silicone but will that be safe? Thanks in advance for the feedback.

i would use teflon tape any HW store should have it just put some around the threads and screw it back in

O btw i like watering system. where ya get the nipples?

They also make nipples that have rubber grommets (push in type), this way you wouldn't have to use a silicone or tape. Thanks for the pics btw, this is what I wanted to do-but pics are always helpful!

I'm not the most patient person. I ordered the plastic nipples but they were on back order till 8/25. QC Supply substituted the stainless nipples but I probably should have just waited.
I used the thin white tape (teflon) around the threads but I still need a better seal. I guess I'll try a bead a silicone and let you know how it goes.

Next time I would probably use thicker and possibly larger diameter pvc and I would wait for the right nipples.

Thanks to Neil and everyone else who helped me figure this out.

The cage itself is flat topped. I bent some field fence to the shape I wanted for the roof and sewed a pocket for the eave into the tarp.

I really like these cages. I'll think I'll ask for some for Christmas, lol. I definitely like the watering system, don't really understand all the parts but my "cagebuilder" might.
