My newest coop! Making progress!!! ALL Finished! :)

Now I'm trying to figure out how to configure the two runs and I'm "shopping" for windows. I went to Home Depot this morning but the cheapest they had were $77.00 a piece and super-nice (vinyl) windows...they don't need to open since this coop will have lots of ventilation but I'd like at least two small windows...

I thought I'd update this since it's been over a year since I posted on this thread.

I was at work during most of this construction so I didn't get any pics of the progress since DH was working on it while I was gone.

Here it is, with the windows installed, painted (which I did with a rented sprayer, while 8+ months pregnant!) and one run completed:

The openings at the bottom are for food/water. I'm not crazy about that design but I figure I can put plastic over it in the winters, if I need to...

Yes, the door is a little crooked....but super-heavy duty and very functional.

DH went a little nuts with the "redwood" stain!

The inside--you can see the nest box....and the pop hole in the floor:

We finished it July 5th, 2011.

Fantastic amount of space for your flock. You just need to be concerned with the bull head type of issues for the flocks safety in the coop. When free ranging on your great property the predators will do what they do and its luck of the draw for the kids when out of the coop

I don't let them free range. I can't. Even with the dogs, we have too many predators--from coyotes, cougar, lynx, bobcat, raccoon, bear, eagles, hawks, neighbor dogs, etc.

Eventually, (like next spring) I want another coop and some chickens I can let range around to control the horrid grasshoppers we get every summer.

As far as in the coops...I only have pairs, trios, quads in each run...they usually grow up together and work things out among themselves.

Oh! I love it! Both of your coops are so cute! I live in the suburbs and I am new to chickens. We have a small flock of 10 hens and a nice sized coop for them however....I want more chickens!!! Sadly, not at our current house. Your property looks big enough to have as many coops and poultry your heart desires!! Jealous!!
