Some of my newly hatched baby chicks have swollen necks a few hours after they have hatched. They are not surviving. I haven't ever had a problem like this when incubating eggs. Only two of my chicks have survived so far and they are perfectly fine, but the last three that have hatched had trouble getting out of the shell and then they seemed really weak and ended up with swelled necks and died. Any suggestions on what might this be and just wondering if it had to do with the incubation period. Thanks.

i really dont know answer to this.. you didnt happen to have to help these chicks out of shells did you ? reason i ask..sometimes when you have to help..if chick doesnt push shell off its self..streatching out legs & neck, its neck will be curled under & thick looking. normally these dont make it.

Yes I did have to help them out. I normally don't have any problems hatching, but this batch was terrible. I think something went wrong with my egg rotator. That is probably what the problem was, thank you for you comment I appreciate it.
