Just got a 21 week old Americana and put her in with my 2 NHR 17 week olds and they went after her pecking etc,so the Americana flew over a 6 foot fence and landed 40 feet away on top of my patio.I have them seperated now next to each other through a fence so I hope they bond. Any tricks to get them to get along, pecking order etc.The Americana was very submissive as she is smaller and outnumbered by the 2 that grew up together but I am afraid they will beat her up real bad.

Putting them next to each other, putting them on the roosts together at night.

Other than that, be close and watch and keep her from being able to fly over 6 foot fences.

I would keep her away and have introductions in an area that does not belong to the other pullets. Chickens can be very brutal. Maybe you can pull a bird from the flock, and let them get used to eachother for a few days, so she wont be alone going into the flock. Maybe you could pull one a day to add with her so there would be a few for her to get used to. I never leave them unattended until i know they are ok. I hope it works out quickly

i sort of had the same situation. (i knew better butt....) my hubby said,,,,,"just put her in there"... Kaboomm, they went nuts. WEll, i just grabbed the 2newbies quickly, and put a dog pen in the run and covered it with the two new girls in it. A couple hours later, i they seemed really calm and so gave it a shot.. That was all it took for mine. They were fine from there on out... Well, except the newbies took over the high roost and i had to build more:( so they were all happy. I may have been lucky, but am grateful i was..

My fat little pampered NHR could never fly over 4 feet in the air,but those Americanas can really fly.I let my girls out in the evening to range about the back 40 and I never worry they will fly out of my backyard, but this new bird even if she joins the group will most likely fly over my fence and be in my neighbors yard.I guess I will have to make a seperate coop and enclosed run and buy a few more Americanas. Opportunity to get more birds yahoo!!

before you get attacked its not americanas. I think its ameraucanas, I'll double check on the u placement.

Did you quarentine? Put them together on the roost at night, There will be some pecking, but when blood is shed, intervene

I can't help you, but I can relate! Our americanas have been pecked on sooo bad that they most likely would have died if they didn't fly out! Once we can back and ones back was swollen and red with all of the feathers out. We let her in our barn coop for recovery. The mean ones we have are the welsummers. Our New Hampshire Red is very sweet.

Well I have decided to keep them separated so I built a coop within my coop with a separate run and fenced over the top so she can"t fly out .They are sharing the waterer and food so maybe they will bond in time.I don"t think I will ever be able to let the Americana range with with the group as she can really fly high!
