Hi,

I only joined BYC recently, and I asked about one of my new chooks, a Bluebell Hybrid being very noisy now that she had started laying. We was doing the weekly big clean and noticed that Frou (our Bluebell) was very quiet (not normal for her!) and her tail feathers are down. Should I be concerned? She has only laid a couple of eggs to my knowledge and I am worried that she may be having problems with laying, hence all the noise she was making up to today. She also did a watery poo today, which I know could be due to the extremely hot weather we have had.

I would be grateful for any advice. Or am I just a newby panicking, yet again!

If it's been that hot, watery poo now and then is about a certainty, as they drink more. It's possible that she is eggbound, but it could all be due to the heat.

HI, Thanks for getting back to me. Should I leave her be for a day or so, or should I intervene? She has been pecking around a little and I have seen her drink, she just seems a lot quieter than usual.

if she is egg bound( this means the egg is stuck inside the vent) this is extremely serious i can't explain it all on here so look it up online, their are things you can do to get it out. one of my hens just today started acting droopy and strange but seems to be fine now, so hopefully yours will do the same. good luck hope she feels better.
