***Sorry for the picture overload***

I purchased Blue Plymouth Rock eggs and only had one hatch, Mort. I've been pretty sure Mort was Mortisha until this past week. She is very aggressive towards the other birds (never to me) and her comb and waddles are looking super red! She is 9 weeks old. Is Mortisha really Mortimer?

Also, since she is obviously not blue, is she a black rock? She has a really pretty purple/blue/pink shine to her feathers in the sun. I tried to get some pictures of them too.

So after I only got one blue rock I ordered more eggs (from the same BYC member). I had yet another single hatch (I suck at hatching chicks I guess). This is Penelope. She was also supposed to be a blue rock. I know she is too young to tell sex, but what's up with her (black) feathers? All of her chest feathers seem to have white tips. Is she also a black rock or some half black / half barred variety?

She is 4 1/2 weeks old.

OOPPPSS see how excited I was? I meant to say Gorgeous Gorgeous Gorgeous !!!

It's my understanding that in breeding blues you can also have black and splash in the color mix.

blue x blue=50% blue,25% black,25% splash

blue x splash = 50% blue,50% splash

blue x black = 50% blue,50% black

splash x black = 100% blue

You were probably unlucky that the ones that hatched happened to be blacks of some form .

The BLRW were picked up at the feed store to keep Mort company. I think they are from Murray McMurray. I am looking for a home for my cockrel if you are interested.

May be looking for a home for Mort too..... I have bad chicken luck!

Looks like all boys to me.

Blue Rocks can be blue, black and splash. There are a few that are working on the Mottled color.
