The head hen of my big girls(was 3.5yo,RIR) died died around 2 weeks ago. She suffered a heart attack unfortunately. Here is an update on the 3 other older hens I have(I have 6 younger hens in a separate coop).
-Ginger(RIR) is Doing well and she’s laying 5 eggs a week. Her ears are still white(idk why), she still has pockets in her feet which fill up with mud and poop, she still has long toenails, and her toe scales are still not flat. Most of these she’s had for a while now. She’s still at the bottom of the order and she gets picked on a little more now that her RIR friend is gone.
-Myrtle(Ameraucana) is still laying 5 green eggs a week and she has picked up a minor feather pecking problem, we are trying to fix that now. Her crop which doesn’t always work has been working again recently after a few weeks earlier in the summer.
-And Now Margaret(Ameraucana) is now molting and has been less active, she is the new head hen and she doesn’t seem to be super happy about it. Her beard did grow back though which is good(missing for a while). She is less active though and her comb is less red. She stopped laying after the loss of prudence(the previous head hen) her eggs are light brown/creme btw(not green or blue)
-This is an update on my older(3yo)chickens, if there is anything you have read that you think is a problem please let me know.

That's sad. I think the EE that is going through the changes was a closely bonded friend?
