Help! So I’ve caught her making herself bleed by pecking before at first I thought she was being bullied but I put blue kote on the wound and next thing I know her own beaks blue I thought she had stopped though and today I found her like title describes she had mites in the past but I sprayed and changed bedding and sprayed again and have been monitoring and no signs of them or eggs on butt like last time and she’s the only one that does this all the other chickens seem fine I seperated her and even though it’s a bloody mess she’s still pecking at herself I turned the lights off n went home will head back to work today early to check on her but at this point idk what to do she just insists on pecking herself bloody while the rest seem fine I jinxed myself by saying I finally had a polish chicken that didn’t do something uniquely stupid … my roo fights dogs even though neighbors dog almost killed him, gold laced flew a lot except when she flew into neighbors yard then decided to run away from the dog not fly Rip then the wcb screams constantly (has been better lately ) n buff never would go in coop with the rest at night every night had to put her in after searching yard for her … now this one pecks itself bloody polish chickens take the cake for MOST STUPID breed hands down some of thier clutch mates managed after 7 batches before them to be the first to climb into the waterer and drown/ soak themselves n get sick one jumped out of my car while I was at work n spent over an hour chasing it through peoples yards made me hours late I do not recommend polish chickens
Main point though does anyone have deterrent ideas to stop her from doing this? And or ideas as to why she’s 1 of 21 and none of the others have pecking marks just her and she was only one with bloody beak so it was self inflicted and she was still doing it after I washed all the blood off her n sanitized n blowdried her went right back to it

Not a prolapse injury was above vent not the vent itself

Coops pretty cramped currently we moved and illegal to own and have to slowly sneak them back home like I did at old place when city left a warning but have pigeons now to disguise the chickens coop as a pigeon loft lol neighbors don’t care but inspector keeps finding reasons to return to the place I’m at now had to redo basement windows n bunch of other bullshit that requires a visit from city inspector not sure of exact measurements it’s slightly longer than my car when I park next to it about as wide and tall enough to stand in I’m 6ft not as spacious as the giant shed n run they had or will have at new place but for now they all seem fine except this one
I feed egg a day pellets (my boss has used this for his chickens the last 30plus years n swears by it ) not sure exact percentage guessing 16% and yes they get a bowl or two of seeds from the self serve seeds for customers whatever the trays catch or when I bag up 50’ bags into 5 lb bags they get leftovers sometimes ranging from pigeon feed to parrot feed but always have thier staple … all the other chickens aren’t picking I installed a cam so I can spy on them

Maybe put a saddle over the spot where shes peaking so she cant peak herself?

Omg thank you I’ve been thinking n thinking like what could I use to block it I was looking into cone of shame for chickens (the dog cone ) then seeing if a chicken diaper would cover up her back enough n totally forgot about the saddle…. Thank you idk like how I didn’t think of that like duh … my boss has the quail guards we were contemplating those but the saddles much better and more effective I knew this group would solve this issue for me and in record timing too !!! :)

She may not be getting enough protein. Put her on an all-flock or grower formula of at least 20% protein with no calcium, and get a bag of crushed oyster shell. Put a container of the oyster shell in the coop the layers can free-feed from and have that available at all times, and cut out the seeds and pigeon and parrot food and all the other extras, try that for a month and see if that helps.

Feed some high protein feed and cut out the seeds, parrot feed etc. They are getting too much junk food.
16% feed is the bare minimum nutrition they can eat and survive and it's be diluted by cake, candy and chips.

Honestly, I'd work on rehoming them, it doesn't sound like a good situation all around.

You're very welcome! I was thinking of a cone of shame too lol. I think having that on for a few weeks will stop the peaking but once you take it off you should watch her for a while. I'm glad this helps!!
