So sorry for your loss! I too have a daschund, Bella, and I know how hard it is to keep tabs on them! However, it was my neighbors daschund, Rusty, who somehow figured out how to open the coop door while I was taking measurements for the new roosting area. My golden retreiver, Buddy (who's very protective of everything on our property), was trying to warn me by barking, but by the time I figured out the hens were freaking out due to Rusty and not the barking, I turned to see him with one of my EE's in his mouth! I literally grabbed him by the nape hard (like a momma dog does when carrying) and threw him out of the coop. Fortunately, he quickly released the bird and both survived the ordeal, but I've learned I can't trust that dog! I would recommend getting more birds of close to the same age. Good luck!
