My Peachicks Of 2013 **Will Have Lots Of Pics**

After moving the last pen outside tonight I seem to also have a trio of whites and one is much taller than the other two, hatched from my black shoulder silver pieds last year. I also have a trio of Opal b/s cause tonight I checked the wingbands on the last group and found another hen. I have another trio of Black Shoulder silver pieds and the male is full of black feathers, almost wonder if he's a dark pied instead? Plus 4 extra bssp hens, greatest way to add white eye and pied along with black shoulder to my other colors using these extra bssp hens. I'll try and get pics, puter still is operating on safe-networking mode so don't know if uploading pics will work.

Silver pied x Silver pied produces some dark pied chicks with two copies of white eye genes. and when this chick ( at maturity) is bred with a white bird ( coming out of silverpied parents). all the chicks will be silverpieds.. It does not matter which one is male and which one is female. Dark pied males with two copies of w/e gene will have all white eye train feathers along with white flights ans a small white throat patch also. The rest of the bird will be the original base color. meaning, if the silver pied is a Bronze the rest of the bird will be bronze.,

OK, Here are a couple of new exciting things at the PeaPen
big_smile.png

First I built a table/stand to hold the igloo dog house and put it in the Charcoal breeding pen. Two days later egss starting appearing inside. I have a ton of eggs in the incubators with more waiting to go in so I decided to let the hen try to hatch some.

Second. I went to a poultry auction and came home with this huge monster chick. Casportpony (Dr Kathy) I need your "what I need to do list" To be sure she is sound and healthy

When we get a new horse/pony, the first thing we do is de-worm with Safeguard/Panacur, but we use paste, not liquid and we do the five day program. She looks like a big horse, probably Thoroughbred or Quarter Horse, so I would give her the whole 1250lb tube. The second thing we do is a dental, aka floating. After a month or so, we follow up with on the worming with ivermectin/praziquantel, aka Zimecterin Gold. If you're thinking about riding her, you might want to have a trainer come evaluate her before you get on and you might want to have a vet do a basic wellness exam to check her heart, lungs, teeth, eyes, feet and soundness. Vaccines are also important, so you should talk to a vet and find out what horses in your area are vaccinated for. Here we do everything except for Potomac Horse Fever, which I think is something that follks on the East Coast still vaccinate for, but I don't know. Here is a basic schedule: http://www.valleyvet.com/si_horse_vaccine.html. You'll also need to find a farrier to to take care of her feet... if you're lucky, she won't need shoes, just trims. And finally, feed/hay, she'll need lots of hay if she's not on pasture.

If you can, call a vet and ask them what to do, that would be what I would do if I were new to horses.
Again, congrats on the new "chick", she's very nice looking, the type I really like!

Do you have a name for her yet?

You're welcome... Any idea how tall she is? Pictures can be deceiving, but she looks like she's at least 15.2 hands.

Yes she has atattoo H 25979. H says she was born in 2004 so she is 9 years old. I am sending out for her registration and paid the $10 for racing history.

Congratulations, you are now the owner of an ex-racehorse, or possibly one that was just at the track. Once you get her pedigree info, you can enter her name here:
http://www.allbreedpedigree.com

And then you can see photos of her ancestors. Here is one from a Thoroughbred that I had:
