For the past 2 weeks Mr. Peabody , who has been content living with the chickens for 2 yrs, has been hanging out with the wild turkey crowd. There have been 2 turkeys at the barn door looking for him in the morning. Last night he didn't come inside to roost, but has roosted in trees before so I wasn't concerned.

He WAS in the barn aisle at lunch time...

I just spotted him roaming the other side of the property with the 2 turkeys...

When I called to him he followed them into the woods..

I'm concerned...poor thing thought he was a chicken for 2 yrs...now he thinks he's a turkey....

How did my real children survive to be succesful adults???

I can't find the picture, but I found a picture one time of a peacock with a group of wild turkeys in the woods. It really surprised the photographer.

I have read of some stories of peafowl running away with wild turkeys. Sometimes they just go away with them for a little while but if your peacock is a lone peacock, turkeys might appeal to him since they are more like peafowl. He might be a bit lonely and want the company of birds more like him. That is just my guess...

Maybe you should get one more peacock. That way if you don't want a peahen but you don't want him to be lonely then he will have company. Peafowl are social and like to stay in groups of other peafowl.

My peafowl sometimes freak out and start calling if they get separated from the group and can't find them.

He's been content thus far with the chickens. He's fond of the sumatra roo. I have guineas getting ready to free range. He's interested in them as well.

He was back this morning, but the 2 turkey girls weren't far away. I saw them lurking. I'll probably have to get him a peahen...

My peacocks beat up my guinea fowl. LOL love the name Peabody it reminds me of this youtube person who named his peacock Peabody

To the OP: If you're not interested in breeding but are looking for a companion for your peacock, you might be interested in searching for Charcoal hens. From all I've read thus far, they are for some reason unable to lay eggs, and thus can't be used for breeding. As such, many breeders sell them very cheap. Deerman should know about this more than I do, including what Charcoal hens generally go for, price-wise.
