My peahen is acting sick!

Thank you, she was egg bound... She laid right after I gave her the calcium yesterday and seems fit as a fiddle today. wonder why that works...

casportpony you give good advice and the diagrams you left are wonderful !
Would like to add a bit of info. on how I give my birds meds. orally.
I use the little plastic pipettes with the squeeze bulb on the end . They are long and you can get them in the throat (esophagus ) comfortably and safely
being sure you are missing the windpipe ( trachea)....you do NOT want to get meds in the windpipe( that's the little hole in front of the throat that opens wide when breathing heavily )
In the case of the calcium pill you can dissolve it first then draw it up in the pipette and give it that way.

I am so happy for you!

I'm not sure why/how it works, but I think it might be the poultry equivalent to oxytocin in mammals. I've personally seen it work in as little as 15 minutes.

Haunted55 started a thread about her egg bound goose and I think there is a link in there that explains how/why it works.
