My peahen lost her crest

My lovely peahen, Anastasia, has lost her crest. Not sure what happened and am wondering if this just happens from time to time and if will grow back. Does anyone out there have any experience with this problem?
 
wow! too much technical reading for me right now.
My peas seem to lose their crown feathers and they grow back within a month or so. Both the males & females. I'm not sure if they are just shedding their feathers or if they are getting picked on & they grow back.
 
They got spooked the other day and she flew away from the house (our house is surrounded by trees). I went looking for her immediately and found her not too long after. Wonder if she caught them on some branches? She and the male are quite bonded so wondering if he would have done that?

Anything is possible but part of their behavior is to preen each other and losing crest feathers can be part of over-preening.
