Three days ago my neighbors dog bit my Huggles badly. Thankfully she seems to be gaining strength day by day and her wounds are healing. She wants to stand but I tested her and when she stood I picked up the bad foot and she was only using her good leg. Her one leg is very limp. We took her to the vet and he found no breaks. He won't be in again until Monday for me to call him with questions. So, I'm worried about that leg of hers. Anything I can do for her? She is not quite yet an adult, has not laid eggs yet. I will post a picture of her and her wound that has been cleaned. Again this picture is going on three days today. Please any suggestions. Also any cheap but great advice on how to keep ththe dogs from coming back? They keep digging in different places and getting in. My in laws have three chickens and they show they are scared by trying to get higher up and flying over th fence. Thanks in advance for any help at all!

Yes we have but I know our other neighbor has chickens and heard one was bit by this guys dog back then. I don't dare to keep him at his word to keep them off. Especially when Huggles is better but may have a handicap.

I agree, call animal control re: the neighbors dog. You may try running a few strands of electric fencing around your coop/run. That could do a lot to change his mind about harassing your bird(s). If you are free ranging your pet chicken - all bets are off. She is exposed to every predator in the area. I applaud you for taking her to a vet. Monitor for signs of infection and make sure flies do not lay eggs at the wound site. Maggots can caused much more damage than the dog did. Hope your girl will be healed soon.

Thank you, can you run those by me to make sure I know he signs? In my city, it's dumb. Same thing happened to a neighbors chicken by same dog owner and the owner ended use keeping the dogs. Do you know much about helping her leg?

I'm really getting quite worried! She seems to be giving up and keeps falling. I think she's wincing in pain. Please help!
