"My Pet Chicken" is it trustworthy? *POST YOUR CHICKS FROM MPC!*

here is my experience from MPC

I paid extra to have sexed silkie chicks (only one who did it at that time)

arrived healthy and vibrant.

my only complaint is half turned out to be cockerals, of course you can't tell in the first 8 weeks they give you to get a refund. and of course they were only pq (obviously)

I haven't ordered from MPC yet, but noticed that Ideal Hatchery was mentioned as delivering unhealthy chicks. I have only placed one order for chicks & it was from Ideal Hatchery. The chicks arrived fine. 8 of 12 died on day 4, but I'm positive it was b/c my kitchen overheated while I was furiously cooking & the temperature reached unhealthy levels. I'm pretty positive that's what happened. When I called them to ask if they had any suggestions on what could have caused it (I was devastated), she offered to refund & resend chicks. But, I had opted out of the "add baby roos to make 25 chicks in a box" policy which negated their guarantee. But, if I hadn't, I would have had new free baby chicks though the cause of their death was most likely my own ignorance. So, that's a plus for them, imo. And, though they do send a surplus of baby roos, they can, if asked, mark the roos so you can separate them out from the beginning. I, personally, didn't know what to do with so many roos except offer them for free to people on Craigslist. I know they would have been taken up, even if only to have been thrown in a pot later. All things considered, a minimum order of $20 and then they fill the box with surplus roos isn't such a bad deal, I don't think. Just saying that I don't think they're all that bad. And I've read on Meyer Hatchery and they seem to be wonderful to work with. I think I would order straight from the Hatchery instead of MPC. You can always pay for overnight shipping when you order from the hatchery, right?

Gabbard Farms and Korfus Kluckers?????? I am astonished that they would put their birds/chicks/eggs up in contract by MPC! Totally unethical to me but possible, yes, if they are desperate to sell to earn some money.

Gabbard Farms would be considered a hatchery, been hearing alot of negative feedback about her birds however I would have to say buyer's beware! If it is pets you want, go for it. If ou are looking for quality exhibition birds, then look elsewhere.

My experience with MPC have been very positive. Their customer service reps are excellent, very helpful and willing to help you get the order you want. They readily refund when indicated. I have ordered bantams and standards. My bantam BR cockerel is absolutely beautiful. The bantam Leghorn pullet is the sweetest bird you can imagine, and pretty too. Not all turned out to be pullets, however I don't see that as a fault of MPC as it is the hatchery's responsibility to sex the chickens correctly. I was refunded the purchase price. I definitely would order from them again.

Wow. I find that extremely rude. Did it really say that?!?! REALLY!?!?!

And, I am positive it was always a 2 week (14 day) notice or a cancelation fee will be charged.... not "or we'll guilt you into jumping off a bridge"

Ew. I don't like that responce at all, and I'm a member of (rule #2 won't let me say it) The H. Society of the Un. States.

And, yes, they certainly get their hatching eggs from Gabbard Farms.... absolutely NO DOUBT on that. Gabbard rubber stamped their name all over the box!

Just found this on MY Pet Chickens Facebook page. They indeed did not send the chicks that I canceled to a "rescue" like they attempted to guilt me into believing. They sold them through Facebook. If you read their page on Facebook, when someone cancels they say "emergency cancellation" and sell them. This means that they make double the money on cancellations.

Not very trustworthy to me.

My Pet Chicken
My Pet Chicken FB chick adoption - We had a last minute emergency cancellation. 5 assorted, non-vaccinated, pullets bantams need a home for next Tuesday/Wednesday delivery. Going for $35. That's more than 50% off. You need to be within 30 minutes of a major city. Please email [email protected] if interested. Offer only available until 11 AM EDT Friday.

I also like how they say "adoption" when clearly, it is a discounted sale.

I also ordered 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte, 1 Partridge Cochin and 1 Silver Spangled Hamburg. They hatched on Monday and I had them the next morning. How do MPC sex the bantams. I thought it is almost impossible to sex them at that age. Or is paying the extra money for sexing just an insurance in case you get a male. Then they refund you?

My experience with MPC:

They were very personable on the phone when I called to change my order.

They are located in CT, and I'm in ME, so the shipping duration was relatively short. I ordered eight chicks for June delivery. They arrived as promised, the first week of June. One was DOA. I requested seven females and specifically requested that the Salmon Faverolle would be a rooster. The Salmon Faverolle is now laying eggs regularly.

One of the Buff Orpingtons has a genetic anomaly. She is missing the nail on each intermediate toe.

My mixed flock o' darlings are definitely "mutts." Each chicken has, for its breed, some obvious characteristic fault. For instance, the Speckled Sussex has white bars on her wings; the Buff Orpingtons have areas of grey coloration in their tail feathers. However, I wasn't expecting show quality birds from MPC, so I'm fine with this.

Personally, I would not consider purchasing more "live" product from BYC. Would I recommend them to someone else? Probably not.

Now that I have a wee bit of experience, I will be purchasing stock from reputable breeders who have been recommended to me either by local organizations or knowledgeable individuals.
