My pet chicken pullet experience?

Anyone have any experience with ordering Pullets from My Pet Chicken? We recently lost most of our flock only one survived. I don't want her to be lonely while we raise more chicks. So I was thinking of getting an Easter a egger pullet so she can start having a flock again. Besides I've always wanted Easter Eggers. Thanks!

You won't be able to order a single pullet from anywhere, unless you find a private breeder willing to ship you a grown hen. Baby chicks need the body heat of other chicks to survive shipment, so hatcheries have a minimum order requirement of, at the very least and according to season, three chicks. It would be six at this time of year since it's still very cold in most areas the chicks will be traveling across.

If you're considering ordering a "started pullet", one that is say, three months old, the policy may be looser. Call MPC and find out.

I already checked on that. I'm not asking about day old chicks. I know they would send me a single juvenile bird. I'm just wondering if anyone has had any experience with their older birds. Like are they friendly? That kind of stuff.

I, myself, have never ordered point of lay pullets. But, one of my chicken friends orders a batch of RIRs every Spring. He gets them through our local co-op, and I believe they order from Ideal. They don't seem overly friendly, but aren't aggressive either. He's always been happy with them. The one thing I did note, those Pol pullets weren't as old as I thought they'd be. *I* was expecting birds that were pretty close to laying age, he received birds that looked like they were somewhere around 8 or 9 weeks old (still quite small). For what he paid for them, he'd have been better off ordering chicks and growing them out those extra 8 or 9 weeks himself. Hopefully MPC would send you birds older then what he received though!

Your nomenclature in your original post was vague. "Pullet" refers to the sex of the chick, not the age. Pullets can be newly hatched all the way up to a year old.

But some of us have become adept at mining the intent from vague posts.

I was going order 2 POL pullets. They are vaccinated and they seemed like they take care of their chickens. The description said that they are handled, so the chickens will socialized. I live all the way in Cali, so shipping cost was intense, but they seemed really nice on the phone when I talked to them. I ultimately decided against it due to shipping cost, but good luck. I would order from them if they had a chicken I really wanted. I actually found my two POL EEs off of Craigslist. They came from a farm, so they were used to being free range, and they were healthy. Mix could tell they were taken care of by the way the description was written in craigslist. Good luck!
