my pet chicken reviews

Pics
I ordered Silver Spangled Hamburgs, White Cochins (Katie's Cochin didn't hatch) Blue Andalusians, (and I know I spelled that wrong) Buckeyes, and Welsummers. I got two of each, so not a huge order, but a little variety anyway. Scheme sharing is always appropriate - hint hint!

So here we go, my hatching eggs are on their way, I now have plenty of broody hens, so the incubator won't be used. Let my bantams hatch them, pull them because they are all large breeds, my chick order should arrive the same week of hatching and in that order of 25, yikes, is 6 bantam that hopefully one of those broodies want. Brood any hatched eggs with the ordered chicks to form a cohesive group.

My egg order will be short 6 eggs, so I'm pondering setting some of my own eggs, I want a buff laced polish crossed with a buff Orpington. I have a couple of broody large breeds, I'm contemplating setting some with one of them, plus I have 6 turkey eggs coming in June because my 15 I have wasn't enough. I will lots of birds and chaos, should be fun. Oh and all those extra roosters, more pens will be needed.

Your chick assortment is a nice one, and a manageable amount. Glad you have some self control.

MPC best customer service ever. They are reshipping my eggs.not til June 6th though that's as soon as my assortment group will be available. And I still get to set the ones I got today on hopes of a hatch! If any of these hatch I might have to give them all traveling names. Looks like I'll be in a June Hal if there is one if not I might have to start one!

I just received my eggs, none are broken. I candled some, I see air bubbles and moving air sacs, doesn't look good for some, will set them tomorrow and see how it goes. My bantam will be happy to have something besides golf balls to sit on.

Good luck!! I hope that those pesky air cells settle out for you!

I just checked the calendar. Could it be that I've actually timed something well for a change? The chicks I ordered will be shipped May 16th, which means they should arrive on Thursday, May 19th. My Silkie eggs are scheduled for lockdown on May 18th, and hatch the 20th or the 21st. Since everything I've read so far says that Silkies tend to hatch a day or so early, which would be the same day the MPC order is scheduled to arrive, I couldn't have planned that any better!

Oh I didn't know you were working on some silkies, you will never need an incubator ever again. Some of my eggs looked like snow globes inside, I can't see how that's actually gonna work out, still fun though.

I had a lot of those "snow globe" eggs! What a good way to describe it - that's exactly what it looks like! Disheartening, to say the least. But I got 3 chicks hatched, one of which had a wonky air cell from the start, so there's always hope!

Thanks for some hope, maybe being under a hen will help, I will set a few home grown ones just so I'm not totally disappointed.

Last year I had ordered some turkey eggs, I didn't see that trouble with them, but they were individually wrapped in bubble wrap and were encase in shredded newspaper. These chicken eggs were firmly held in a foam bed, that might be why they don't ship so well. When my turkey eggs arrive in June I will be definitely comparing them, last year I had no clue and just shoved them under some chickens, too many for them to set and I still got 50% hatch rate. Now I'm more knowledgeable, which sometimes works against a person.

I will definitely post any updates. Now begins my experiment.

Lol this has been quite an experience the super blue egg layer eggs were left out so they aren't even in the box I was so worried about. Already sent an email. Lol this hatch just wasn't meant to be I think but since they c are replacing my eggs in June I can hope they are all there and don't travel the country trying to get here.
