My Pet Hawk

Looks like a light Red-tailed Hawk. Both the Ferruginous and the Red-tailed can show a "belly band", but Ferruginous Hawks have feathered legs, rufous backs, and really long, bright yellow gapes. I don't know where you live, but Ferruginous Hawks only live in western states. Cooper's Hawks have WAY longer tails and a much different coloration.

Critters can move outside typical ranges. My interactions with Ferruginous Hawk in Missouri during harsh winter.

I know that very well... But you're in a western state.

I saw a Barrow's Goldeneye and a Tufted Duck on Lake Champlain, NY/VT. Talk about outside typical ranges!

If I understand English correctly, the ward HAWK is for the birds belonging to the genus Accipiter but birds that belongs to the genus Buteo, like this one, Are called BUZZARD . Am I right? I think I had this discussion in the past, but I don't remember the solution.

Well, not here in the U.S. Accipiters and Buteos are all hawks and there are no birds with the Buzzard name over here (although some people call the Turkey Vulture a Turkey Buzzard, but it's a vulture).

Here are some pics from 2009 after Lightning struck our 75ft tower in the backyard at our old place.(2009')
The photos taking on the ground are from a camera and being used today for a perspective of height.
The ones taken next to the Red tail Hawk on the tower are video frame grabs since DH had the video camera on the tower with him and I had the normal camera on the ground. The Hawk landed on the tower while he was on it so he grabbed the camera and climbed back up. The entire time the Hawk was paying attention to my Chickens and didn't care about Bob on the tower right under him.

I found this, in the UK the term Buzzard is correlate to the genus Buteo
