My pigeon just layed her egg

Hi everyone,

2 days ago i was outside and i noticed my male getting sticks in the pigeon shed and then he was taking it to my female in her mouth and then the female would place it in the nest. So i thought they were building a nest so then i gave them some hay and they kept building. (I site that amazed me).

then yesterday morning i woke up and my dad came in and told me there was 1 perfect size pigeon egg. I was so happy because i had these two pigeon since they were one month old. It is now winter time where i am though but the tempreture is staying at 15 deggrees and the pigeon dont seem to mind at all. I do have a lot of questions though.

1. how long till the egg will hatch
2. when will the second egg be layed
3. how to make sure everything goes greatly for them

Also every bit of info would help

I recomend to anyone out there to get atleast 2 pigeon. they would make your life that much better.

1) It takes approximately 18 days for pigeon eggs to hatch.

2) The second egg is generally laid 48 hours after the first egg.

3) Provide adequate feed and clean water and the mom and dad will do the rest.

I agree that everyone should have at least 20 or 30 pigeons.

Good advice from Sourland he is right on. However where it is quite cool where you are the hatched could be delayed a few days I always mark 21 days so it lands on the same day as the egg is laid on the calendar.

It is always a wise idea to wait a few extra days. I always candle my eggs to see if they are fertile after about a week.

Plenty of web sites to give you information on candling eggs. Sounds like you are off to a good start 210175.

Thanks, They are really great parents and i always leave them enough food and water. Does anyone know how long till you can tell there sexes and how long it takes for them to hatch.

1) It takes approximately 18 days for pigeon eggs to hatch.

Males at about 4 months and females at about 6 months Is when they become sexually mature give or take a month or two. You should be able to tell the sexes probably before then (every pigeon fancier I know has made mistakes sexing birds).
