My plans for the future-chickens, ducks, quail

Update: After looking again, MyPetChicken doesn't have sebrights! they are at the top of my list for 'birds I desperately want to own' I think that I'll end up getting a larger order of straight run bantams. If I want one female each of 5 breeds, how many chicks do you guys think that I'd have to get? How many per breed?

Well, I know most of the hatcheries I go through have seabrights. I don't do MPC because they're too expensive with a few exceptions. Most require 5 minimum per variety of bantam anyways so you should have decent chances of getting at least 1 hen for straight run

I go for MPC because of the minimums that they're able to do. I've expanded my plans for my bantam flock. How many bantams would a 6x12 run fit with a 6x4 coop? I know that it is easier to rehome extra hens than it is extra roos.

Also: What breed of ducks do people recommend for beginners? A mix? I was thinking that I'd like 2 pekins, and one chocolate runner duck and one blue runner duck. Do different breeds do well together? What should I do for the other two ducks? Do I need a drake? I have never had ducks before.

Someone should stop me before it's too late....Now planning a 20x20 run for my future ducks. Possibly thinking about a 20x30 run for my chickens. I really need to keep things more realistic.

@Ihavesomechickens We were talking about college stuff...I don't want to intrude on the other thread. For the advice of 'Have parents pay for tuition' they have a college fund going for me, which is good...I'm not sure how much is in it, though. I plan on starting up babysitting and dog walking after the pandemic, so I'll have a source of income, even if it's not much.

Yes. The last thing you want is debt after college. I would also stay away from only studying arts and getting your degree in that, as being realistic, the arts aren’t really something you can live off of.

I personally got one degree in psychology and one in biology.

Thank you for advice! I still am not sure what career path I'd like to take-career, in my eyes, is different then 'job'. Job is something that earns you basic income when you need it, and can be most anything. Career is what you'd like to dedicate your life to, and you enjoy it. They can be the same, but I'm thinking that directly out of college I won't be able to set it up that way. I think that I'd enjoy being a teacher, but I really don't think I'm not sure that that would generate enough income for me to fulfill my dreams of living surrounded by animals.

In America, being a teacher right now is basically working at McDonald’s. No money, and you get made fun of on a regular basis. I’m not a teacher though, I just know that information from my friend who tried to become a teacher, who is currently impoverished and depressed.

If you are interested in animals, I would recommend an animal biologist or vet. Those both earn a steady income normally, and allow you to be around animals often.
