My POOR babies!!!

Oh, my goodness! So sorry for your loss! We are expecting our first chicks next week and have put up lots of 1/2" hardware cloth...maybe we should rethink this?

if you have dogs or there are some in the vicinity that run free i would definitely put something extra around it. Prepare for any possibilities.

I don't think it would deter dogs .. I t more likely would excite them ..I still think the fence charger is the way to go .. I t will not hurt your dogs ,but gives an unpleasant reminder each time they approach the fence .

We had a problem with our dog running into our horse turnout and scaring the poor guy. We strung some of the turnout's electric fence on the ground... And let's just say he didn't even go near the area for about a week. Hopefully one good zap will change your dog's mind about going near your chickies.

The only thing about the electric fence is we have 3 little girls that play in the fence that the coop is in and i would be afraid that they would touch it. They always go to the fence and play with the dogs. My husband said today that he is gonna put chain link around the coop on top of what is already on there and also put up a fence with a walk gate so the coop will have its own little square of fence for extra security.

You can always unplug the fence when the girls are out playing, if you feel safer that way. My boys grew up with an electric fence running along two sides of our lawn (it borders the pasture). They learn real fast not to touch it! When they were little they believed me when I told them not to touch it, but kids being kids, eventually they had to figure it out for themselves. My dog ran under the fence once. Just once. He caught it with the tip of his tail as he was going under...
