So we have the 17 chicks in the grow out pen, DH hasn't gotten around to finishing the box part of it, so we have had a giant sized bin in there with a door cutout for shelter. They usually huddle together at night.
We have barely had any rain since we put them out there. Sooooo......they said 20% chance of rain. I wasn't too worried, light sprinkles, maybe some rain....eh, no big deal, right?
I'm sitting here & realize it is POURING!

Really heavy rain! UGH
I go out there & the girls are all tucked inside the boxes, staying dry but the 5 roos were refusing to go inside. So I quick shoved another bin inside there & shoved them inside. They seemed grateful. Then covered the top with a sheet of wood, hoping to block some of that rain. Poor guys! They were pretty wet, all huddled up together, with the smallest one all jammed in the middle staying fairly dry.

I, meanwhile , look like a drowned rat now.
You can bet Ill be on DH like crazy tomorrow to get it finished. Poor babies!!!

if they're feathered then don't worry about it. Mine stand out in the driving rain all the time even though they can go in the coop. Rain doesn't bother the birds and there's no need to worry. Actully, even though mine look like drowned rats they really love being out in the rain. I think it's cuz it brings all the worms and other bugs to the surface and gives them a treat.

Theyre 8-9 weeks old & have pretty much 98% feathering. They didnt seem very happy when I found them all huddled together. lol
Funny that it was all the boys.
