My poor chicken died.

Hi I got up this morning checked my chickens (only have three) and all looked fine. I got to work and a couple of hours later my wife text me to say one of the chickens was lay in the middle of the run with her head down. Half an hour later she phoned me to say she had died, she had been fine to my knowledge and I checked her body and can't see anything. I did notice she was a little bald behind her back legs and my wife told me she smelled of rotten meat but I couldn't smell anything or see anything. Anyone have any ideas?

If she smells of rotten meat, i would check her crop. Is it huge? is it hard and impacted. there are a good number of threads on here about strange smells.

The thing is I can't smell anything and I couldn't see anything on the dead girls body apart from the little bald spot. Would mites leave a dead birds body straight away because I couldn't see them either.

Yes, mites will leave a dead animal quickly.
