My sweet girl was bit by a dog. Ive been adding antibiotics to her water and cleaning the wound 1-2 times a day with watered down betadine. Shes walking, eating and drinking and even laid. Im in the medical field but this is a whole new ball game. Im posting a picture from monday when it happened and from today friday 4 days later

Chickens heal amazingly well, and as long as there isn't "heat" or pus in the wound (a great concern with dog bite...the bacteria that enters from the dog's mouth), she looks like it is healing.

Definitely finish your series of antibiotics. I think you can administer Tylan by mouth which might be more effective than water. Be sure to change the water to fresh each day as the antibiotic grows old as the day wears on (but I'm sure you know that being in the medical field).

If she is alert, eating, drinking, pooing normally, and the wound continues to heal without getting "ugly," I think she will do fine.

Now about that dog...obviously some better security is needed for the chickens.

The dog was brought by a visitor and got off the leash. Otherwise they are protected by a sleepy basset hound. I guess thats what im looking for, reassurance that is how healing is supposed to look. Thank you for replying so quickly.

Im sorry your chicken was injured . That sucks that the dog got off leash and wasn't chicken friendly . Accidents and mistakes happen though . She looks to be healing well and she is a very pretty color

Thank you. Shes a beautiful red rescue. Ive had her for 3 years. My heart hurts for her. Our other chicken has stayed close to her. Its really sweet.
