I have been feeling kinda bummed out for a few days so DH got me a gallon of paint and I have been painting the livingroom ( a fresh coat of paint makes everything feel brand new ) anyway I was tired so I took a break - while sitting down I heard some of the girls telling everyone that someone laid or is about to - so DH rushes out to the coop to gather whatever eggs are in there - he comes over to show me the 4 eggs and I try to tell him which girl laid which egg while juggling them in his hands - so I could get a better view LOL - he dropped one LOL it is our first egg loss ever - so sad - DH just stood there looking at this egg on the carpet oozing like he was in shock - than looks up and says " We still have 3 " LOL
he finally did get it cleaned up but he was so happy to have collected 4 eggs at one time poor guy ( think I will find him a basket or something - so when the girls really start laying he wont drop any)

p.s. I did not manage to get the livingroom done so I am doing it today LOL

I think I saw some cute ones on mypetchicken.com
I have a bad habit of sticking them in my pocket if there's only one or two. I've washed a lot of jackets after doing that....

One day I was at a business meeting and reached in my jacket pocket looking for Burt's Bees lip balm and to my surprise I fished out an egg - I had forgotten to deposit it in the fridge before going to the office. Miraculously it hadn't broken in all the rushing around of the morning. Needless to say it was an odd moment at the meeting.

Unfortunately I have broken a few eggs over the years due to clutziness. I always feel really bad when that happens because I think of the effort the hen had to go through to make it.

jjthink, that's a great story. I can just picture a business meeting at a conference table, and you slowly putting an egg on it...

I used to collect eggs in a little bag. The hens got so used to me bringing out treats in my little bag that would jump and peck at the bag while I was colecting eggs. They broke several before I switched to a basket.

Isn't collecting eggs the grandest of things? LOL

LOL, we loose eggs all the time since my 5 and 2 yr old boys insist on helping bring the eggs in. We have a basket so it is usually the 2 yr old dragging the basket on the ground.lol I try very hard to get him to keep it up but I dont figure a couple broken eggs is worth the screaming fit he will throw if I dont let him do it himself. Then when we get in the house he sits on the kitchen floor with the basket and I get the eggs out of the fridge and he puts them in the carton. He will yell when he needs a new carton and then he trys to put them in the fridge for me. He is going to be my chicken boy for sure. Jenn

Keep a couple of boiled eggs on hand!

I have done that - my 4 year old wants to hold eggs all the time, so I keep a couple boiled.... Of course now she thinks she can drop it and nothing happens...
