My poor hen

Woke up this morning to find one of my hens hatched on 18 August had been attacked and eaten..we've had chickens for almost three years now and this is a first..such a sad day.

i'm so sorry. What a terrible shock. Can we help you figure out what got to her and how to best keep the others safe?

All that we found was her feathers and her bones. Everything else was gone. Her head was gone even; wings and feet were there. We think it might have been a ferrel cat. This morning, we had a red tail hask on the back of one of our hens. They both came out from under the space on our front porch and I think my husband going out frightened the hawk a way. Now we can't find 6 of our hens...I'm very upset by it all. We've never had this problem before..

So sorry. If it is hawks, you might try hanging shiny stuff around. I am fascinated by the reports I see of using this to keep hawks away.
