My poor Montie girl :(

I went out a few minutes ago just to check on everyone again and pick up a little more and my pretty little Silver girl, Montie came walking up to the water and I noticed that her head had blood on it! It was obviously from one of the boys breeding her & grabbing her too rough.. I am suspecting the new guy, Donny, but I'm not sure since I have 3 actively breeding boys right now. I scooped her up and moved her into the small pen and put my little boy Willoughby in with her for company.

This is the first time I have had one the girls get injured from breeding but she will be staying in the small pen until it heals up some. Hopefully, while she's in there, I can figure out which boy is being such a jerk and do something with him... there's definitely enough girls that this shouldn't happen.

I have a question though...

Since I have never kept a drake that was agressive or bred agressively, I want to know if anyone thinks the boy that did this will keep being so rough with the girls? I know they "pinch/grab" them but I have never had one of the girls get pinched so hard that they bled

I love Montie ! She is so pretty! Im so sorry that she is hurt! WHen i had an aggressive drake i put inthe cl ad that not only was he a great
addition to any yard but just the right size for a stew pot. I know, I dont like thinking of my birds getting killed and eaten but i dont put up with aggressive boys

Today I watched my geese sprint across the yard and yank two of my scovie boys off my little female , they chase them away from her before going back to her to check on her. The boys were fine although their pride was hurt and my little girl wasnt being man handled anymore

One of my muscovy girls got her face chewed up real bad one year, I was so upset, but I found out who it was and found him another home, I don't put up with agressive drakes either.

Well my #1 suspect is the handsome new guy & i just watched him try to chase down another girl 10mins ago, but Sidney stopped him when she ran behind him. I will have to watch him the next time he catches one of them and if he does it again he's gotta go. I can't have my babies running around with owies

I still have a few more boys coming into the flock from a friend too, one identical to new guy Donny in fact, maybe he will be nicer to the girls.

Just as a silly Idea! could you not use a water pistol or something like that when he is using aggresive behaviour? I'm having trouble with one of my drakes at the moment, He tries it on with the dog, chickens and humans.. I've found a few methods help... Everytime he is free ranging and acts aggressive I put him in a small pen, when i put my arm in his pen if he behaves he comes back out, it can be annoying keep watching him, but he seems to thinking... The Hose pipe (jet) obviously not harming him, that puts him off. everytime he tries it on with my leg or arm, I grab hold of his beack point at him and loud NOOOOO that works well with him..... the other thing i do, is play rough and tumble with him, like grab his beak then pick him up put him down then rough his feathers up and reapeat a few times.. Then he flaps his wings to sort his feathers out then he waddles away with that happy look.... I think playing rough with the boys when the are in that silly mood helps a lot, like that got attention and excitment ... if that all makes sense

I use a squirt bottle to help stop bad behaviors... Like Screaming... Whenever Ollie gets in a screaming mode, we squirt her while shhhing her really loudly. Eventually she stops... It might work...

When I got my 2 Muscovy girls the other week they had no feathers on the backs of their necks. I felt so bad for them!

I have 3 drakes in with 24 girls now and they all do fine but I do notice that Cimido has lost her "do". I guess the boys pulled it out while breeding.
I have yet to see one of my drakes on the Muscovy girls. Thank goodness! They are so precious. I love to watch them at night "count" the ducks as they go in to the coop. The Muscovy girls, Kisses and Hugs (chocolate with some white), stand outside the door and every duck that goes in they reach out and give them a little snap. I have not seen them actually grab feathers but it is a snap of some sort.

How did I ever get through all these years without the lovely Muscovies!!!!???? I totally adore these ladies. I hope they all are like this because I MORE!
