My golden comet laid her first egg yesterday. She is about 3 and a half months old! She is pretty swollen and she can barely poop. I’m worried she’s not going to make it. Can someone help me?

Poor thing, what do you feed her?
You might want to reduce the protein intake so she hopefully will not be triggered to any more premature laying.

Sounds like she might be egg bound but it could be an infection of her oviduct. Does she have other symptoms? Is she eating? When she does poop what does it look like? Put on a glove and insert a finger in her vent. See if you can feel an egg.

More information, please. What part is swollen? Can you take a photo and post it so we can see for ourselves?

How much does she weigh? Take a photo of the egg, as well, and post it. Please lay a ruler next to it for scale.

Is there any bleeding? Is her vent prolapsed? Is there any watery discharge dripping from her vent?

She seems to be eating and her poop seems a little watery apart from that she doesn’t have any other symptoms

There is no bleeding she is not dripping water and she doesn’t have a prolapsed vent, we were not prepared for her to lay an egg so her egg cracked on the ground we haven’t checked her weight and you can only tell her vent is red because when she tries to poop the vent shows

Can you take a picture of it so we can determine if what you're describing is normal. Also I'd like to see the swelling you're talking about. Has it been hot there?

update:we just checked on her right now and she seems to be doing better she can pass her poops now and when she poops the vent doesn't seem to be visible she is also eating a little more
