I have been hospitalized two of the last three weeks so I was unable to finish my turkey "coop" and porch until my family would come help me. Yesterday my dad stopped by to finish it so my bronze cross babies can finally go outside. They are almost 8 weeks old and bigger than my chickens that are 4 weeks older lol, they have been in a cage in my dining room and as you can imagine they get stinky in no time flat, I had to clean their bedding twice a day because they would spill water and food and poop all the time lol.

I built them a custom 6ftw x 6ftl x 8ft high elevated shed with an 8'x8' "porch" area that has chicken wire sides and thin welded wire bottom with a pull out poop tray. I decided to put them on the "porch" vs the ground so they could be out of the dirt since they are still kinda young and have been in the house. They have been going out almost daily in an elevated cage I had outside and they love it outside so I am just glad to get them out there.

How old are your birds typically when you put them outside? I dont have any adult turkeys, just the 3 bronze poults and they are my first.

I checked on them this morning and they were playing like a couple toddlers lol, I put a sand box in the end of the coop part and they have almost emptied it taking dust baths lol

You must be so relieved to have them out of the house! I have 8 stinkers at about 7 weeks and boy I hope DH can finish the turkey coop tomorrow! I kinda manage the design aspect while he does the work. Fortuantely he likes to saw and nail.LOL I need them out sooner than later, so I feel your relief having them out side and in their own home.

Yeah!!!!

P.S. Hope you recovered well!

lol as sad as it sounds I miss their pretty singing in the dining room lol, they got so used to crying for daddy when they wanted more food or attention and I got used to the little hissing alarms when I walked through there in the dark lol

I have 2 royal palms that are about 9 weeks and they are still in the house. They have a huge dog cage with a perch. I take them out in the morning around 10 am when its warm and bring them in around 7pm I ask them if they are ready for bed and they will jump on their perch and yawn!!! I cover them with a huge blanket they sleep very well inside! I hope I will know when they are ready to stay out in their coop!
