Hi all,
I got 3, 3 day old "hens" on the 3rd day of the 3rd month (that was weird and I'm really not a dork like that but....). Roxie, Betty and Lil Bit. 2 barred rocks and a brown leghorn. They were in the coop for 2 months then let out to free range all day and back in the coop at night on their own. I went out of town for Memorial Weekend and when I returned that Monday, they were nowhere to be found til I went 2 houses away. They were chilling down the road and since then, they've never put themselves back in the coop. They instead chose to roost under my carport on a bench. That's also when i realized Roxie wasn't a hen and she became Rocky. When Rocky found his voice and began crowing, so did Betty right beside him. Once that happened, they kinda turned on Lil Bit and started bullying her and sorta kicked her out the gang. She was the same age but half their size.
This past Sunday, they were under my neighbors house.... giving them a wake up call.... when 2 dogs got Rocky and Lil Bit. Betty has been CRAZY ever since. I locked her in the coop a couple nights. She was not happy the next morning when I let her out. She doesn't go to the neighbors house any more and stays close to home. I was told chickens are social creatures and she won't make it by herself so I got an Orpington Buff and a white leghorn for her.... they are both older by a month but still half her size. The first night I locked them all in the coop together. The next morning she was Lording over them and pecking on the leghorn. I let her out. I came home from work and she was sitting next to them on the outside of the coop. Was she longing for their company or taunting them saying just wait til I get to you again.... the plan was for me to get rid of all of them. My friend has some kids who want chickens. I brought the coop and the 2 new chickens and set them up at my friends. The kids are happy happy happy. I'm back to square one with a chicken all by herself and now she won't roost on the back of the bench, she chooses the hood of my truck now. That's ain't gonna fly!! I want to bring her to my friends to be with the other 2 but I don't want them bullied. Will that end? Will she integrate? Will they be happy?????? Please someone advise me!!
Thanks!
Melissa
