Betty is a cockerel. Which is probably why she did better with another cockerel than with your hens.

He has rooster-specific saddle feathering. His comb is a pea comb, which is smaller than the single comb your other rooster had.

Not kidding. Feathering indicates 100 % that he is a cockerel. He's not a barred rock. He is a cross bred carrying EE DNA that explains the comb.
