shes only 12 weeks old, also her tail feathers are long. she is an easter egger, but could she be a he?

Sounds like it's a he. Hens have been known to crow but not usually until after maturity and the reproductive or hormonal system gets disrupted either by age or injury. A picture would help with a definitive answer.

This happened to me yesterday with my 20 week old Black Australorp. This chicken can't be a cockerel. She hasn't started laying yet but neither have the others. I guess time will time.

sapphirethehen - posting a picture of your chicken would be helpful.

I hear Black Australorps are one of the hardest to sex and you just about have to wait until they crow or lay. I would be worried. I have 4 that are still babies. I really, really hope they're all girls.

her tail feathers are very glossy and they are 5 inches long and curving downward. is this normal for this breed?

Really sounds like a roo to me. Are the hackle feathers (neck) developing thin and pointy? What about the saddle feathers?
