Hello, I just wanted to ask if anyone knows what type of nests chickens like to lay her eggs?

I prepared a basket with hays for my girl and she's not interested. She seems to keep eyeing on the couch ( she is a semi house chicken) in a restless way. I'm afraid I'll be getting eggs on my couch:idunno

How can I encourage her to lay eggs on the basket that we've prepared?

I have never had this issue before (mine usually lay theirs in the nesting boxes all on their own... I can count on one hand the times they didn't) but I have heard that putting decoy eggs wherever you want them to lay will give them the idea that that is where they are supposed to go.

Other things I've heard are that they like to lay their eggs in places they think would be safe, since, in their heads, they might be raising babies there, and also they want to be safe during the actual laying process. They like dark and quiet places to lay, so maybe move the basket you made somewhere dark and quiet and then show it to her. Good luck!

Ok thanks a lot! I'll try that again.

I might add not to have a couch in their area and only the space as previously mentioned with false eggs in the nesting box to encourage them to use it appropriately. Good luck!
