My quail are dying

That is exactly what they are doing. Maybe I should let them be for a while then and rest? Hope they dont all die! I contacted Olesens Flyway who I purchased them from(FYI)and got a voicemail. I dont know if they will call or not or what good it will do. I was hoping my son would enjoy helping me raising these
( he is 14) but as you can imagine this is a nightmare senario, watching them die. I am mad as a wet hen!!

It could also be due to them drinking too much too fast? Try taking their waterer away for a while, then putting it back for 5-10 minutes. If they are dehydrated, and drink too much water, that will kill them.

Well i am down to 58 out of 100. I have tried everything got temp at 100 degrees but they are still going but its slower.I will be surprised if i have a couple dozen by morning.I watched them for a while and they seem fine but then when they lay down they lay on their breast and seem to sleep. Then they tip over and strech out and a couple minutes later ....... Sound like a certain problem to anyone??

I don't have any idea, we have had some of ours die too, first hatch ever.
Maybe one or two a day.
How much sugar should you put in the water?
Gheessh they are tought little boogers.
Thanks,
Great thread.
Best of luck with your babies!

Well I only lost 4 more overnight. Hopfully the worst is over. I have no shavings down. I have a cloth tarp that is folded up and is a couple inches thick. I have plywood under the feeders and waterers. I think the stress from shipping was the problem. Most died within 6 hours of delivery. I dont think the were warm enough at the post office. There was no water or food in the boxes they were shipped in either.

I will stick to incubating my own from now on. I have 24 Turkeys due on the 7th 36 pheasants and 24 Jap quail hatching this weekend then 10 guineas and 22 bobwhites on the7th also.

Bbay birds aren't generally shipped with food and water as they dont need to eat and drink the first several days, they're still living off the yolk sac. Sorry you lost so many, and dont have any advice for you.

I can't find it on here now (maybe another site) but I thought I read to ship them with a wet piece of bread to keep they from starving or thirsting to death. Does anyone know about this.

Birds are rarely shipped with food and water. However quail are not chickens and they cannot live off the yolk for several days. As I already pointed out they do need to eat and drink within the first day of hatching. That is why I would think shipping quail chicks wouldn't go so well anyway and I'm surprised hatcheries do it.
