My quail has an infected head?

2-3 weeks ago my quail had quite a deep cut on the top of her head which healed up nicely with some savalon ,but now its been teared open from her flying up and hitting the top of her cage. The night i spotted it i forgot to put savalon on the wound but in the morning puss had arrived and invaded the wound. I have put savalon on it but the puss keeps winning and the savalon cant seem the get rid of it. I have now covered the top of the cage with a towel so she cant hit her head on it. My parent dont have enough money to take it to the vets even after i have pleaded them, so they wouldnt be an option ! Whenever i go and check on her she is always sleeping and looks ill.Does anyone have any ideas on what to do? Also the other quail in the cage keeps puffing up her feathers, is this normal?

No, the puffed up quail sounds sick. You might have something else going on besides the cut head. What other symptoms do they have?
Runny poo, swollen eyes, not eating? Are you in the US and can you get to a feed store or TSC where they have medicine for the birds?

X2 If they are both puffed they are sick. Get to a feed store and ask them what antibiotics they sell that they can recommend to you for your birds. Most likely it will be something that goes into their water. Make sure to explain that your birds are quail and their symptoms. Good luck.

I dont live in the US, will they still have antibiotics at a feed store?
It is just the one that is puffed up, will the other one get it?

Also is it so serious she could die?
What type of illness?
Would normal bird antibiotics work or just quail?,i dont think they have got quail antibiotics but i'll check.
There is runny poo in the cage and the one thats puffy doesnt look like shes got a swollen eye and neither does the other one. Its also just made me realise that the puffed one isnt eating, not quite sure about the other one though. I will ask at Countrywide and Pets at home if they have some TSC or antibiotics.

But re-post your questions in the Quail thread on this site, also, because you might get better answers. Antibiotics in the water are easier and you might find them. Describe to the supplier the birds' symptoms. Also, X 2 on whatever you get, let the supplier know it's for Quail. You can also look on line, and in pet stores (for cage bird antibiotics) It could be many types of illness, hard to say.

My parents let me take her to the vet and the vet stitched up her head. The other one got diagnosed with internal parasites and so I got some flubenvet and they are on that as a dewormer. The only problem is that I'm having to mix the pellets with water and string feed her which is going fine but I'm just worried she won't start eating by herself, any suggestions?

Just give her tasty things to eat. I think quail are like any other bird as far as eating. My last bird with a bad injury wouldn't eat, and I finally coaxed her to, with fermented feed, which is easy to make. You can also try mixing a little applesauce, yogurt, or buttermilk with their food, or some scrambled egg, tomato, or banana. Glad things are looking up for you.
