My quails beak broke

So when I was going to get Dusk (My quail) I looked at her beak and it was broken and bleeding and I thought maybe she hurt herself on her cage, so I looked everywhere for a broken or sharp piece on her cage but their was nothing and I don't know why it broke and I really don't want it to happen to any of the other birds we may get.

Quail who feel trapped can pace back and forth, running their beaks along the bars of their cage. If her cage was too small or she felt threatened by something in her environment, she might have begun to pace—that could have been enough to damage her beak.

Make sure your quail have enough space that they can get out of each others' way. Give them cover that hides them from your view and from the attention of other quail. Only handle them as frequently as necessary—the vast majority of quail do not want to be touched or played with.

Also—and I don't mean to sound harsh—please do not get more quail if you can't provide a suitable home for them. We all just want what's best for the animals.

How small is your cage?

If you're keeping a quail in an indoor canary cage or something, it really needs to go out into a larger hutch or aviary. They are small but do need space, especially ground surface area. So long enclosures have the best footprint.

Also do you have any kind of hiding material like branches or something that replicates scrub for the quail to hide in? They get stressed in the open and that can lead to the pacing behavior @le_bwah is talking about.

Her cage was actually meant for a bunny, but all the bird cages weren't wide but really tall because it was meant for flying birds and their aren't really any quail cages.

There isn't much you can do for the broken beat but what you can do is wet her feed. Make it soupy so she can still eat.
Hopefully she continues to eat.

I used to keep a branch in the corner of her cage and she would hide behind it, but I thought she just was trying to look out of her little window

Thanks for the advice! But the quail has actually passed away, I just want some advice for next time, when I get another quail

That's a good space for a small Coturnix flock—consider adding some little huts/boxes and branches (real or fake) for birds to hide in.

Japanese quails' wild cousin, the common quail, spends most of its day hiding in brush and other low cover. Japanese quail appreciate the ability to hunker and rest under cover, too.
