I am guessing that they eat crushed adult food.

Yes crushed adult food and the hen should lead them to the food and water plus they need grit and calcium, I use crushed oyster shell and play sand with a bit of pet bird grit added just in case the little ones cannot eat the sand or shell yet. be sure yu have a safe water container for the chick (s). good luck.
I have a hen who has hatched 5 tiny button just this week. too darn cute! She is a great mother and is leading them all over the cage and I have seen them all eat and drink.

To my knowledge, you can, but feeding them food that is only meant for quail is better.

chicken feed is not high enough in protein, it can work for a day or so but they really need higher protein to be healthy.

What about chick feed or baby bird feed ?

Quail should get 20-24% protein as adults and 30% protein as chicks. If you can't find gamebird food and starter use turkey starter and crush it.

The chicks are growing fast and drinking lots.There are 3 chicks,the other two probably didn't hatch because when the first chick hatched she stopped looking after the eggs.

Any advice on encouraging them to sit on the eggs? and what factors play a big role?
