My quick throw together cheap hatcher that is 100% effective!!!!

If you incubator/hatcher junkies don't quit making it sound relatively possible for just anyone to hatch their own eggs, I'll be sunk. My DBF keeps saying my keeping clucks will lead to "harder drugs," and hatching your own peeps is just that! I've started thinking about what it might be like...I find myself hanging out more on this forum...uh oh.

Its very addicitive..LOL I had already thought this up in my mind before to make a hatcher so I could stagger hatch. SEE THE ADDICTION..LOL

When it came down to life or death I jumped into gear and built it. Quicker and cheaper and messier then I had planned but like I said it does the job. I am not the best "Builder" of ANYTHING so for me this was a big A+..lol So it's EASY and kinda fool proof if you keep it in a well heating room and away from drafts.

It's funny that you had this strategy already thought out in your mind - you were prepared to the hilt! I am marking this thread so I can study your pictures...I may jump off this cliff yet...thanks!!

LOL, I say leap...

I should have taken pics while I was putting it together but I wasn't thinking of that I was just running around and throwing it all together. LOL

Chickies are adorable and what you can't or don't wanna keep will always be able to find a new home with someone who could use them or for meat. So hatching is never a loss unless you spend tons of money on all the LOVELY eggs from other BYC'ers..LOL

Edited to add: Also go and do a search for missprissys homemade bator also. Gives more tips and she has some awesome pictures of the process she did with hers.

Well, you've inspired me to get off my (sitting on part) and get busy. I have a great heavy-duty styrofoam box from an order of frozen steaks and goodies my MIL sent us. I was nearly as thrilled with the box as the steaks. I told her she sent a permanent gift along with the consumable one, as I had plans to make a 'bator out of it.

Now that I've read how you did this on the fly, with almost nothing, I have to get to it!

Yep, I've been making an incubator for the last several days, thanks to Miss Prissy, et al!

I kept seeing all these neat bators and slowly started collecting stuff (it was weird...like it was a subconscious activity LOL!). I've now got my bator up and running and am now working on regulating the temp. You did an awesome job on your impromptu bator!

Thanks everyone..LOL...I can't wait to try it out again on the 28th so far 2 days it has been running temps are holding so well even in my wash room that is the simi coldest roo in the house it only drops from 100.5 to 99.5 so not bad at all.

Again...Watch how many vent holes you put in it..LOL

For the eggs I got from a cousin whos broody was killed they was on day 16 so I didnt turn the eggs. So far I am gonna use it as a hatcher. If I tend to use it as a bator for all 21 days. I will prob hand turn, but I'm sure I could think up a turner..LOL

Also I forgot to add to add water I use r big mouthed straws tapped together that I put through a vent hole in the top I use a measuring cup that has a funnnel mouth at the tip to add water if needed.
