we have 3 litters of babies right now.
Our English Giant(Spotted Giant) has a litter of 7, Our Lionhead has a litter of 9, and Our American Fuzzy Lop has a litter of 6-8(jumped around too much). The first 2 litters are already hoping around and have eyes open. The 3rd litter was just born this last weekend.
We increase the moms food and water as she is nursing the babies.
We also give all our rabbits(prego, females, non prego females, males, nursing moms) treats everyday such as dry oatmeal-they LOVE this and it helps with there coats-keeping them shiney nice and neat(or so we have found), we also give them lots of different fruits and veggies(not all at once). We also give hay and fresh picked grass...
I was told NOT to give nursing moms fresh grass the first week or two or it could give the babies the runs. We usually wait a good 2 weeks before giving the mom grass again.
We have only lost one baby. It was from the lionhead(she was a first time mom). I was out there filling all our rabbits feed dishes, went back to fill all the water dishes and she had taken the dead baby and put it in her food dish(I assume for me to find).
I also learned that if you end up having a mom that is eatting her babies to put a few (and I really mean just a FEW) drops of vinegar in her water. It will stop her from eatting them. She gets the taste of the blood from what I understand but the vinegar covers that up and she no longer will do it.
