You can always give her alfalfa hay and carrots as a extra vitiam boost..
She sounds like she is doing really good.. The mother only visits the next a couple times a day. The mother will also keep the nest (fluffy) So the babies stay nice and warm.
It sounds like everything is going great. Make sure you increase the amount of food she gets. Now while she is feeding the kits and later as they start to eat. Do you feed hay? It is a good "starter" food for the babies when they start nibbling on things.
Congrats on your baby rabbits. I have a doe that has killed 2 litters of kits because we touched them or bothered her too much. This past litter she had a week ago I have only checked her once a day for a minute to check food and water and so far so good.
we have 3 litters of babies right now.
Our English Giant(Spotted Giant) has a litter of 7, Our Lionhead has a litter of 9, and Our American Fuzzy Lop has a litter of 6-8(jumped around too much). The first 2 litters are already hoping around and have eyes open. The 3rd litter was just born this last weekend.
We increase the moms food and water as she is nursing the babies.
We also give all our rabbits(prego, females, non prego females, males, nursing moms) treats everyday such as dry oatmeal-they LOVE this and it helps with there coats-keeping them shiney nice and neat(or so we have found), we also give them lots of different fruits and veggies(not all at once). We also give hay and fresh picked grass...
I was told NOT to give nursing moms fresh grass the first week or two or it could give the babies the runs. We usually wait a good 2 weeks before giving the mom grass again.
We have only lost one baby. It was from the lionhead(she was a first time mom). I was out there filling all our rabbits feed dishes, went back to fill all the water dishes and she had taken the dead baby and put it in her food dish(I assume for me to find).
I also learned that if you end up having a mom that is eatting her babies to put a few (and I really mean just a FEW) drops of vinegar in her water. It will stop her from eatting them. She gets the taste of the blood from what I understand but the vinegar covers that up and she no longer will do it.
Thanks yall ! she gets alfalfa and timothey hay, plus full feed, and carrots, apples , and cucumbers . i dont know what breed my rabbits are but i got 2 brown,2 white with a few black spots on there back and around there eyes(just like there mom) and 3 cole black ones . she was a realy good mother i was bad about touching them i just couldent help myself but when she didnt whant me to touch them she would paw me to get away i know i broke all the rules of raising rabbits :| but i also made sure i held her and gave her her rubdowns befor i touched her babies.
Congrats on you alls babies there so cute!!!
p.s. i cant get my cam to work to take pics so ill have to wait till i buy a new one and with the way things r going it will be awile!
another question i took the dady out and put him in a cage after she gave birth but what i need to know is it possible he already breed her agen? he was tring befor i got him out (they were sapose to both be boys)
I don't know about rabbit rules... we always handle our babies and check them at least daily. I've never had a doe kill a baby due to us holding them. But we also handle our rabbits and they are very friendly.
How long do baby rabbits stay with mama rabbit - I have a female that had 5 babies last month. Their eyes are open, they are hopping around, and they are eating out of the food bowl. Are there any signs of weaning? I forgot to record the day of birth.
I leave my baby rabbits with mom until they are 5 weeks old. If you don't remember the day they were born just make sure they are eating the food and not sucking on it if they are actually eating the food then you should be fine if you wish to wean them. Also the mother will act as if the little ones are getting on her nerves sometimes and thats a good sign to move them to another cage. Also we do not handle our baby rabbits until they have their eyes open our does have been known to kill them if we handle them sooner. Thats our New Zealand white rabbits our lops don't seem to care either way.
